Calca Solutions Supports 911 Memorial Project

Calca Solutions is a proud supporter of the #LCREBOUND and #PartnersinParks Initiative, which aims to revitalize and promote community spaces while honoring significant historical events. Our contribution to this noble cause directly supports the 911 Memorial Project, a heartfelt initiative focusing on the refurbishment and ongoing maintenance of the 911 memorial located on the picturesque Lakefront Promenade.

This significant site is not only a place of remembrance but a testament to resilience, featuring 12-ft beams salvaged from the World Trade Center, limestone from the Pentagon, and the poignant “Ribbon of Souls” mosaic.

This mosaic, made up of shards of stained glass, beautifully represents each life lost during the tragic attacks on September 11, 2001. The 911 Memorial Project serves as an essential part of our community’s remembrance and healing process. It was officially dedicated in 2012, made possible through the generous donations of community members, school children, and local businesses.

911 Memorial Project History

Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the city of Lake Charles obtained two steel beams from the World Trade Center and a slab of limestone from the Pentagon, gifted by the U.S. government. These powerful artifacts were used to create a memorial designed as a peaceful space for reflection, remembrance, and healing. The memorial stands as a tribute to the lives lost, a symbol of America’s resilience in the face of adversity, and a reminder of the enduring values of liberty and justice that unite us as a nation.

Surrounding the memorial is Ribbon of Souls, a vibrant stained glass installation created by local artist Susan Arnold. The colorful circle represents the lives of those who perished on that fateful day, with each piece of glass symbolizing an individual soul. The engraved steel beams and Pentagon limestone also honor two local heroes—Russ Keene, who lost his life at the World Trade Center, and Kevin Yokum, who perished at the Pentagon—ensuring their memory lives on in the heart of the community.
